SEA AND YOU – GRANADA, NOVEMBER 11TH
On November 11th, the long-awaited moment has arrived. The first stop of the SEA and YOU festival has been a huge success. Three associations from three different cities, Napulitanata, CajaGranada and Ideal Clube de Fado, have created a wonderful interweaving of musical traditions. The project had its first concrete realization in the city of Granada, home of Flamenco. Discover below the details of what happened!
FIRST DAY: THE ARRIVAL
On the first day, upon their arrival, the artists of Naples and Porto were welcomed at the Centro Cultural CajaGranada by Antonio Camacho Ruiz, local communication responsible, Jihan, artist of the Spanish group, and by Fernando Bueno Lopez Viota, President of the Foundation and local event manager.
After a short greeting presentation by the Project Coordinator Domenico Emanuele Matania and the President Fernando Bueno Lopez Viota, the two groups were invited to a guided tour of the structure, where they could admire the Museo Memoria de Andalucía and discover more about the history and culture of the host city.
Immediately after, the artists had the opportunity to rehearse the concert in a space made available for them by the Foundation, thus immediately starting to bond musically: the focus of the rehearsal was the song ‘O mare e tu, which represents the union of three musical cultures. The song was performed with verses in all three languages, and all three groups of artists participated on stage.
In the evening, the artists participated in a Flamenco dinner-show at the restaurant “Venta El Gallo“: this was the occasion not only to attend a real Flamenco show in a typical restaurant, but also a nice moment of team building between the three groups. After enjoying the dinner together, the artists visited a viewpoint to observe the illuminated Alhambra at night: a real special moment that marked the beginning of a common path.
SECOND DAY: GRANADA’S EXPERIENCES
On November 11th at 9.30 am, all the artists gathered at Plaza Nueva to take part to a guided tour of all the emblematic and representative places of the city of Granada and, in particular, of Flamenco.
At 2.00 pm, the artists met all together at the Centro Cultural CajaGranada for a lunch with a typical menu of Granadese cuisine and for a pre-concert toast. Soon after, it was time for the soundcheck and rehearsals for the show.
SECOND DAY: THE CONCERT
It’s time to perform.
The atmosphere inside and outside the Theatre CajaGranada is full of positive vibes, people are waiting to witness a unique show of its kind. The artists tremble to show the numerous spectators their culture, their history, their music.
9pm, curtain opens, show starts.
The presentation of the show was entrusted to Jerusalén, who explained in English and Spanish what SEA and YOU is, a project co-funded by the European Union, and introduced the artists and their repertoire. The show was also recorded and projected live streaming on the Facebook page of SEA and YOU.
The Portuguese artists performed first with their Fado, followed by the Neapolitan artists with the Classical Neapolitan Song, and lastly, the Spanish artists finally performed their Flamenco show with their guest artist. The show ended with the performance on the notes of ‘O mare e tu, played by the whole ensemble, what a magical and unique moment!
THIRD DAY: THE LAST DAY
On Sunday, appointment at 11.00 am for a masterclass of Flamenco with the musicians of the Granada group: together with them, the teams of Porto and Naples were able to work on the structures of the musical language of flamenco, on the “Palos” and its influences and expressions. The meeting was important as it brought together the three musical genres: each group, with their own instruments or simply using their hands to keep the rhythm, could express themselves in the best way according to Spanish musicians, thus creating a truly unique cultural sharing moment.
Then, it’s time for greetings, to the next meeting, destination Porto February 17th, 2024!
